Satlink.exe is an excellent executable for the manipulation of orbiting satellites. It does not require root to run, however changing the orientation of the dish or satellite does.
When started, ASCII art will appear and the program will look for a dish to use. Hosts with a dish include hosts with 'university' in the organization name (ex. University of Maryland) and mil hosts with the ".af.mil" extension (ex. disg1-gw.robins.af.mil). After Satlink.exe has finished initializing, you are presented with 4 options. Pressing S lists the location of the dish as well as the current position of the dish. Pressing A allows you to change the azimuth and elevation, but this requires root. Pressing C will connect to the satellite, provided the dish is pointing at one. Pressing Q will exit the program. If you are getting into sats I would recommend reading satcom.man in the telehack lobby.
