Setmotd is a command that enables the user to edit the message that is displayed when users login to a host. To use this command, the user must be root.
# setmotd Setting /etc/motd... Enter up to 5 lines of text Enter a blank line to end. > Line 1 > Line 2 > Line 3 > /etc/motd set
Once the user ends the setmotd command, the lines that they entered will display like this to every user that logs in to that host:
/etc/motd: Note: DANAMALS has ROOT here as of 17-Apr-13 08:46 Message from DANAMALS: > Line 1 > Line 2 > Line 3 grumpy$
